Sometimes up in my little northeast corridor, I forget that weather exists outside of the occasional snowstorm or nor’easter. However, watching the news these days, I am sitting here with a dreaded sense of déjà vu as Tropical Storm Isaac is poised to make landfall on New Orleans seven years to the day of Katrina. (One can argue that this is God enforcing the Floridian Stand Your Ground Rule in time for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, but Erin KLG would argue against that…and well, rightfully so.)

For those who are watching and want/need to stay informed, Google has already set up a crisis center with helpful information.

If you are interested in relief funds more information can be found here:

Feeding America: Feeding America works with local food banks and is one of the charities I donate somewhat regularly to – Charity Navigator also gives them high praise

Heart With Hands: Based in Asheville, NC, they are already collecting items for donation. (You can see the list of needs on their website)

Red Cross:  The Red Cross is one of the oldest and most respected response agencies in the US. You can text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Feel free to list others in the comments.

Stay safe.
